Allow us to introduce the all new low emission IONIQ; the Hybrid - the Electric - the Plug-in Hybrid. Which will you choose?
With the Hybrid and Electric versions being available from October 2016 they will easily give you the taste for what's to come for mid-2017 when the Plug-in Hybrid is expected.
The new cars name refers to elements of its creation - IONIQ. An ion is an electrically charged atom linking to the cars combination of electrified powertrains. The second part of the name references the unique offering it brings to the Hyundai range. Hyundai are launching two vehicles; one hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and a battery electric vehicle BEV.
The IONIQ is a parallel hybrid which is a combination of a combustion engine with a motor generator. A kappa 1.6 'Atkinson' GDI petrol engine is used and coupled to a six speed automativ dual clutch transmission (DCT). The car can be propelled by either the petrol engine, the electric motor or both. The IONIQ hybrid enables emission free driving at speeds of up to 75mph.
The IONIQ battery electric vehicle is the first fully electric vehicle from Hyundai. Powered by lithium ion polymer high voltage battery the resulted range can be up to 170 miles. There are three charging options; Quick, Standard or Overnight. This means you can have your car charge from 1-2 hours for a quick charge, standard charge of 4.5 hours, or charge overnight.
